Book Review: Night Fall by Nancy Mehl

Night Fall, Book One of The Quantico Files series by Nancy Mehl, released last month with the second book in the series on preorder and set to release in November.

Alex Donovan grew up with tragedy and a bizarre past dogging her footsteps. Now, she’s an FBI agent in the Behavioral Analysis Unit and assigned to a case that puts her back in touch with that past as she tracks down a missing scientist and vials of a lethal virus.

I think Nancy Mehl has found her niche. Like the Kaely Quinn series, this story starts out creepy and takes that creep factor to the end, killing people along the way. As in all her books, the romance thread is there but so understated as to be negligible. It focuses on the suspense. Alex’s childhood involving tragedy and a cult, left her uninterested in the Christian faith, so of course, Ms. Mehl paired her with a Christian. 🙂

I thought some of the actions toward the end were a bit contrived, and Night Fall compares – maybe a little too much – with the previous Kaely Quinn Profiler series. But it’s still a fabulous read if you like your suspense a little dark (no pun intended). I give this book 4.6 stars and look forward to the next in the series, Dead Fall.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
