Book Review: Within Golden Bands by Norma Gail

Within Golden Bands is the second book in the A Home For My Heart series by Norma Gail. Let me confess that I have the first book but haven’t read it yet. So, I’ve moved it up in my TBR stack.

The first book ended with **spoiler alert** the marriage of the Keiran and Bonny MacDonell. He’s a Scotsman. She’s a transplanted American. This books deals with their first year together and their efforts to start a family.

The setting is a sheep and cattle farm in Scotland. With the descriptions, I felt as though I was right there on the rainy, loch-brushed land. While the issues with pregnancy and all that entails take center stage, there’s also a plot line of suspense and danger involving the MacDonell family land that has the reader on the edge of her seat.

The story provides insight into the Scottish culture, and I felt for Bonny and Keiran as they struggled to find an answer to an uncertain family future.

Honestly, there were times when I wanted to shake Bonny. She was a bit too whiny and demanding of her husband for my tastes. She wanted a child and she wanted one right then. On the other hand, Keiran had his own agenda for a family, which made for good conflict between the two.

All in all, I enjoyed this story of seeking God’s direction as opposed to our own, and I give Within Golden Bands 4.3 stars.
