Life in General

It’s A Good Friday!

That heading may seem a little strange, considering this is the day Christians commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus—“the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29) But that’s exactly what makes this a good day.

Jesus sacrificed his life on the cross for everything wrong that I’ve done, said, or thought—everything you’ve done, said, or thought. He put to an end the need for any of God’s people to sacrifice a lamb without blemish to atone for sins. He was the lamb without blemish. He sacrificed His life for everyone’s sins. He said, “…everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. He will be handed over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him and kill him. On the third day he will rise again.” (Luke 18:31-33) He also said that unless he went away (died and rose again) we would not receive the Counselor—the Holy Spirit.

So, today, instead of TGIF, how about TGFGF? Thanks, God, for Good Friday, because without it there would be no Resurrection Sunday—and no hope for the world.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (Romans 15:13)
