Review: Journey’s Embrace

Journey’s Embrace is the third book in the series by Dora Hiers set in the fictional town of Journey Creek, North Carolina. Like the previous books in the series, it’s not one to miss. 

Even though he should remain hospitalized, Sage Michaelson answers the call from his friend Steven to watch over little sister Delaney while he’s on his honeymoon. Delaney’s recent experience with a man who broke into her home has Steven worried. Her subsequent experience at the wedding worries Sage. 

Delaney is no longer “The Great Dane” of Sage’s early years. She’s grown into a lovely, young and headstrong woman scared her feelings for Sage will show. After all, he makes it clear he still thinks of her as a sister.

Over the years, Sage has lost those closest to him. While he guards Delaney from a physical threat, he finds it harder to guard his heart from the risk of losing someone else. In the meantime, her mysterious enemy is bent on seeing to it that exact thing happens.

As writers, we’re told to discover what our characters fear most and turn up the heat by using that fear. Ms. Hiers does a good job of using Sage’s fear against him.

The banter between the characters makes the novel a fun read. At the same time, the romance sizzles and the threat of danger satisfies. So if you plan to spend a few hours with an entertaining romantic suspense, with the emphasis on romantic, curl up in a comfortable chair and open Journey’s Embrace.
