For this novel, the author went back to her childhood to set her story in a place she knew well—yet didn’t. Since the book takes place in the early thirties, Ms. Meyers had to research the various business and buildings that were around before her time. (Okay, I’ll get it out right now. I loved seeing the photograph in the book of her as a little girl, swimming in Lake Geneva with her mother.)

This Love Finds You… deals as much with family relationships as it does romance and spiritual issues. It seems every time Meg asks God for what she’s determined she wants, He doesn’t oblige her. She wants to be a real reporter, not someone who writes society news. But the owner/editor refuses to hire a woman for the position. When she does get involved in investigating a possible scandal, it hits too close to home. And when she falls for Jack Wallace, a past hurt keeps her from believing he could be interested in only her. It seems Meg has as much to learn about her family as she does about trust.

I enjoyed the way Ms. Meyers brought to life the 1930s setting. She used enough detail to make the reader feel a part of that time, but not so much it felt like a history lesson. The relationship between Jack and Meg grows at a natural pace, and there’s an interesting twist toward the end of the book.

There were a couple of minor plot points that were not tied up by the end, at least for me. Otherwise, Love Finds You in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin was a pleasurable read from an author I’ll include on my future-to-be-read list.
