World War I is over and everyone awaits the return of the doughboys, including Annemarie Kendall. Her injured fiancé, Lt. Gilbert Ballard, will arrive home soon. But Annemarie fears things won’t be the same between them.

Gilbert comes home a cripple, determined not to be a burden to Annemarie. He brings with him a new friend, Army Chaplain Samuel Vickary, who has his own wartime demons to battle. 

All three must work through a web tangled by love, guilt, deceit, and anger.

A beautiful cover to match a beautiful story. When the Clouds Roll By is the first book in Myra Johnson’s new series Till We Meet Again, and it’s a great beginning. 

Set in Hot Springs, Arkansas, this story gripped me from the start. It centers around the consequences of war—not only as it affects soldiers, but the effect it can have on those waiting for their return.

This is a story well-told through four points of view. I was at least three-quarters of the way through the book and still not sure which man Annemarie would choose. Because of that, I don’t want to give too much away. I’ll simply say that if you want romance, emotional upheaval, and a satisfying happy-ever-after with characters who play on your heartstrings, this is the novel for you.

Oh, one more thing. I’m ready for Book Two.
