Seriously Write: Writer Burnout by Elaine Marie Cooper

Sandra Ardoin @sandraardoin

If you think about the writing life, it sounds so peaceful. … Endless calm and creativity, while royalty checks arrive in the mail daily.

If you’ve been a writer for any length of time, you are rolling your eyes at this description.

Elaine Marie Cooper

On the Seriously Write blog today author Elaine Marie Cooper talks about how writer burnout can affect our personal lives and when it might be a good time to take a step back.

Have you ever said “no” to writing in order to say “yes” to healthier living?

As an author of heartwarming historical and contemporary romance, Sandra Ardoin engages readers with page-turning stories of love and faith. Rarely out of reach of a book, she's also an armchair sports enthusiast, country music listener, and seldom says no to eating out.

I’m definitely rolling my eyes with you, Elaine. Working a full-time day job along with writing and helping out my aging parents leaves me with little time for things I’d like to do. I’ve had to learn how to say “no” which has helped. Great post!

Honestly, I do not know how writers who work other full-time jobs do it. I take my writer hat off to you, Jill!

Was my blog or the Seriously Write blog you had problems with? I’m sorry it was an issue but thanks for letting me know. 🙁

Hi Jill, I know so many are carrying multiple loads while working on their writing career. And I understand the role of caregiver—so very important and exhausting at the same time. I remember writing my first novel when I worked fulltime as a nurse. I was very scheduled with my time: Wrote from morning til early afternoon, heard my timer go off and went to get showered before heading to my job. But now, with several books published and juggling a part time job at home, life is even more of a juggling act. I have, more than once, found I over-committed. So I’m speaking to myself in this blog as well. Praying for you as you write and manage so much! Blessings!

Thank you, Elaine. Sorry I was unable to comment on the SW blog. I might try copying and pasting my comment using another browser. Yes, it certainly is a juggling act and so easy to over-commit ourselves. I’m at my day job at 6:00 a.m. so I can’t get up much earlier! LOL! I’m a weekend warrior and some weekday evenings, when I’m on a deadline.
