Sounds cliché this time of year, but this short phrase keeps sounding in my head. new season.

As I drove down the long, winding country road to my home, I noticed the subtle changes of fall beginning to affect the scenery. Leaves turning to yellows and oranges, along with fields of cut hay on the ground drying, brought the phrase to mind once again.

I had the air conditioner on full blast, however, to combat the 90 degree heat outside. It looks a little like fall, but still feels like summer.

The thought slips into my mind. Nevertheless, it is almost the autumn equinox, the first day of fall. Only two days away.

The parallel of seasons and life. I know it is now a new season for me. Life has changed over the last year in ways I never expected; some good, some not so good, and some very bad. The heat of despair and discouragement has scorched me, but the cool breezes of fall are not far away and will extinguish the heat, bringing a time of rest and healing.

So today, while staring out at the first rain we’ve had in a month, I think about tomorrow, the first day of fall. I write this down for that’s what writers do. We take everyday thoughts and analogies and pen them into carefully crafted words of encouragement, mystery, suspense, or romance. Life happens and after we’ve had time to process it, it becomes fodder in the stories that readers love to read.

What is therapy for me is a story I hope you’ll treasure and enjoy for years to come.

Is it a new season for you?
